Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey is part of the Alder Hey Family House Trust an independent Charity.

RMH is a place where the parents and carers of seriously sick children can stay, free of charge, whilst the medical staff of the biggest children’s hospital in Western Europe make the child well again.

Imagine being a child who is seriously ill, being frightened, distressed, maybe a long way from home and friends. You would want your mum and dad to be with you.

Imagine being the parent of a child diagnosed with a life threatening illness, you would want the best possible treatment for your child, this might mean travelling to another part of the country from your home town. You would want to be with them, but would also need a place to sleep, to cook and to do the laundry. You would need a “home away from home” for as long as it takes.

During the past 14 years, Ronald McDonald House has become an essential part of the hospital scene at Alder Hey...open 365 days of the year and always full to bursting with the mums, dads and other loved ones of the children who are most critically ill.

Total running costs £400,000 a year This money has to be raised by voluntary contributions. We believe that our House and others like it worldwide can support the recovery process for a sick child and we are continuing to expand our services here in Liverpool. Since opening in 1993 we have looked after 13,000 families in our family rooms.
