Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice

2009 marks the 30th anniversary of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. When we opened in 1979, we were revolutionary. We launched into a world that knew very little about the special care needs of the dying and those close to them. We gradually made an impact, not only in the provision of this specialist care, but also in its research and education. We have achieved much in our rich and challenging 30 year history, and we want to do everything we can to safeguard our future and ensure the Hospice and its services are always available to those who need us in the next 30 years, and beyond. Your support in helping us to achieve this is therefore as crucial as ever.

Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice offers Specialist Palliative Care to those facing the end of their life and to those who love and care for them. We are all hugely fortunate to have such an exceptional palliative care resource available to us in our community and we are determined to continue developing our services for local people. All our services are free of charge, but it costs over £10,000 a day to offer such an exceptional standard of medical care, which is why your financial support is so important.

Over the last 30 years there have been more than 10,000 admissions to the Hospice, which means we have been able to have a significant impact on more than 30,000 people’s lives. In addition, since the mid 1990s, we have also been taking all of our services into people’s homes – last year, for example, we supported over 670 patients and families in their own homes. Hospice support is provided to the family as well as the patient for as long as is necessary.

We are optimistic and hopeful about our future and the opportunities to support local people at a vulnerable time in their lives. Our challenge lies in establishing sources of sustainable income in order to expand and develop our services at the Hospice and further into the community. Your help now is more vital than ever. We do hope that you will choose to support our work by buying from our selection of Christmas cards. Please do not hesitate to contact us on 01252 729446 or email fundraising@pth.org.uk – we would be delighted to hear from you.

Thank you
