Meningitis Trust
Up to 500,000 people living in the UK have had viral or bacterial meningitis. Hundreds of people
depend on the Meningitis Trust for support every day of their lives. Without it, many would never
receive the professional help they so desperately need and the demand for our services is greater
than ever.
Meningitis continues to shatter lives and traumatise families with devastating impact on the sufferer, parents and
siblings, employers and work colleagues. Whether a loved one survives, is left with a disability or sadly dies, the
impact on the family unit is enormous. Our support is invaluable, without it, many would be left to suffer in silence.
The Meningitis Trust provides practical, emotional and financial support to people whose lives have been affected
by the disease. Our range of professional support services, developed over many years, is designed to help people
across the UK to rebuild their lives after meningitis. The support is available for life, whenever it is needed, and
includes the following:
24-hour nurse-led helpline – a free phone service, providing information and support seven days a week
Professional counselling – confidential counselling for people who have had meningitis, and their families
Financial support grants – to help fund specialist training, equipment, activities, respite care (to give a break from
caring) and funeral costs
Home visits – trained staff offer information and support in people’s homes
One to one contacts – putting people affected by meningitis in touch with volunteers who have also experienced
the disease
Art Therapy – confidential theraputic service for children and young adults who have been affected by meningitis

No other meningitis organisation offers this range of professional help. The Meningitis Trust is completely reliant on
voluntary donations to continue its work and we need your help to enable us to continue to provide these much
