Jeans for Genes

Did you know that one baby in every 33 born in the UK has a genetic disorder or birth defect? There are currently 4,000 known genetic disorders and these can vary from something as easy to treat as a squint or cleft lip to more challenging conditions such as haemophilia, cystic fibrosis, or muscular dystrophy.

Jeans for Genes works hard to help children born with genetic disorders by funding medical research in to the causes and treatments of these inherited conditions.

For example the charity has funded pioneering gene therapy for children born with no immune system. Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital successfully identified and replaced the faulty gene. They are now able to fight off infections, bugs and colds and are healthy school children.

The charity also funds support services such as medical specialists, information, and holidays for children affected by genetic disorders.

Please help us to continue this vital work by purchasing Jeans for Genes’ Christmas cards, as twenty pence from every card sold will go straight to the charity. For more information visit our website www.jeansforgenes.com. And remember to make a note of Jeans for Genes Day, Friday 5th October 2007, when millions of people ditch their usual dress code and wear jeans instead.
