Forever Friends Appeal
The Royal United Hospital is the acute district general hospital for Bath and the surrounding towns and
villages of North East Somerset and West Wiltshire – a very substantial catchment area covering 500,000
people.
The Forever Friends Appeal raises money for state-of-the-art equipment and facilities at the RUH. In the
summer of this year we launched our new exciting project – NICU ‘space to grow’ - a £4.5 million
campaign to build a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit here at the RUH. Some 500 sick and premature
babies use the existing facilities every year and we want to make sure that they are given the best possible
start in life. The present building is old, and conditions are very cramped, making the care of our tiny babies
extremely challenging.
As well as providing important additional space, we want to build a NICU that will be light, airy, and calm
with a welcoming environment for both babies and parents. Sustainability will be the key objective of the
new design and we will aim to do ‘more with less’ by maximising resource efficiency in planning, design,
waste minimisation and recycling.
We are hoping that local companies will want to help us meet this challenge and, with this in mind, I am
writing to ask you to support our NICU campaign. If your company will be sending out charity cards this year
may I ask for that you consider this campaign. Every card purchased goes a small but significant way to
helping us achieve this goal. Thank you for your support.
