Derian House Children's Hospice
Situated in the heart of the community in Lancashire, Derian House provides specialist care for children with life threatening and terminal
illnesses, and support for their families. For many parents Derian House is the lifeline that helps them to cope with the overwhelming
sense of unreality and isolation that goes with knowing that their child may not survive on a long term basis.
Derian House has an enviable reputation in setting new standards of excellence in children’s hospice care. Indeed much of the palliative
and respite work initiated by Derian House in the years since it opened in 1993 is now emulated throughout the UK. It is this reputation,
not only for its treatment techniques, but also for its outstanding care system, which has led to its support of more than 300 families in
the North West.
In spite of, or some would say, because of its role as a children’s hospice, and the full implication of what that means, it is nevertheless a
place where life is for living, where laughter as well as tears are found in equal measure.
As a charity receiving minimal statutory funding, the hospice continues to have to rely almost exclusively on voluntary donations to raise
the £1.65 million it will need this year to continue to fund its work. This means that, in real terms, whilst the hospice is open 365 days a
year it receives statutory funding for just 9, a major ongoing challenge in fundraising terms!
We are so grateful for the tremendous help we receive from all our friends, be they individuals or groups, small companies or major
corporates. Please support our Appeal through the purchase of our Corporate Christmas Cards. Every card sold will contribute to our
funds and you will be helping us to safeguard the future of Derian House and provide a lifeline to countless children and their families in
the future.
Thank you.
